Clausen received his bachelor's degree in journalism from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan and served as an award-winning investigative reporter in Indiana after college. Attorney Clausen attended law school at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and received his law degree in 1984. During law school, he was a moot court champion and a fellow in the John Marshall Society.
After a judicial clerkship with the Washington Court of Appeals and Washington Supreme Court, 1984-85, he began in private practice. Attorney Clausen is admitted to practice in Washington State, the federal district courts of Washington, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and the Federal Court of Claims.
